Year Twenty-nine

29 years today, Veronica and me.
We hitched our wagon to a shining dream,
Endured the jumping, bumping roads,
Held fast at winds that rocked our sides,
Each taking turns with firm-held reins
When at a climb the other baulked.
And still each day we greet as one
And each still evening share our song
To fill each other’s sorrowed moments
Up to the brim with steadfast love.
On as one, a trust in each secured
We’ll hold our hearts as long as we can breathe,

Twenty-five and Counting

We wed two dozen years ago plus one
Enjoying every aspect of our love
And working for tomorrows yet unseen
And giving, giving of our very essence

We’ve pushed the trolley up the lumpy hill
When wild winds lashed the rain into our face
And icy breezes chilled us to the marrow
And arrows punched their way into our dreams

We hunkered, souls engaged and interlinked
Shared each other’s strength and counsel wise
Greeting days with pleasant resolution
Till golden suns would wander into view

Twenty-five full hours in each fat day
Each silvered night sits mirrored by the stars
As planets track their influence through clouds
And moon and sun keep faith in tides once ours

We wed two dozen years ago today

Enjoying every aspect of our love

And working for tomorrows yet unseen

And giving, giving of our very essence

We’ve pushed the trolley up the lumpy hill

When wild winds lashed rain into our face

And icy breezes chilled us to the marrow

And arrows punched their way into our dreams

We hunkered, souls engaged and interlinked

Sharing each the other’s strength and counsel

Greeting days with pleasant resolution

Until the sun came wandering to view

Twenty-four full hours in each day

And our day is brightened by the stars

As planets track their influence through clouds

And moon and sun keep faith in tides and hours
